A gynaecologist is a doctor who specialises in women's health, and more specifically problems relating to a women's reproductive system and reproductive organs.
For many women, a gynaecologist can help you in managing problems or disorders relating to women’s health.
Any woman who has questions, concerns or problems relating to their reproductive system or reproductive organs should see a gynaecologist. Some of the reasons a woman may come to see us are:
- menstrual disorders,
- abnormal cervical smears,
- pelvic pain.
In cases like these, you should seek advise and treatment from a gynaecologist at the earliest opportunity.
You can arrange an appointment with a gynaecologist yourself by contacting our clinic directly, or if you like, you can get a referral from your GP.
During an appointment with your gynaecologist, they will take medical history and undertake an examination. If necessary, they will also perform tests or investigations relating to your problem or complaint. At this or subsequent appointments, your gynaecologist may find it necessary to initiate some form of treatment for the problem. In some cases, patients may require an operation as part of their treatment plan.
Although many gynaecological disorders are easily treated by a change in lifestyle factors, patients should not suffer in silence but seek advice early as it may have a profoundly positive effect on their life.
