International fertility survey
Fertility Associates is New Zealand’s leading provider of reproductive medicine and is committed to a range of research activities including how better to support couples through decision making if they should seek medical help and treatment. As part of this effort we are current taking part in the World Fertility Survey.
The survey is conducted by Dr Jacky Boivin and Dr Laura Bunting from Cardiff University (UK) with a grant from Merck-Serono International S.A., and we have agreed to assist with promoting this survey in the New Zealand market.
The objective of the Survey is to understand the decision making process of couples looking to conceive around seeking medical help and treatment. Today, in New Zealand about one in five couples experience conception difficulties. However, only 40% of them would seek medical advice within the first few months of discovering there is a problem and a 1/4 of women affected by infertility may never have children. We would like to understand what prevents couples from achieving their dream of becoming parents and how the situation can be improved.
The scale of the survey is unprecedented. It is being placed online in US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, India, China, Australia, New Zealand and Japan to gain a truly global understanding of the issue. In the New Zealand market, we are looking to attract 400 respondents to this survey.
If you are able to help us gain a better understanding, the survey will take you approx 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Participation is anonymous. You’re welcome to answer only those questions you feel comfortable answering, and you can withdraw from the study at any time. The Ethics Committee of the School of Psychology, Cardiff University will provide ethical scrutiny for the study. This committee can be contacted at psychethics@cardiff.ac.uk and the research team at fertilitystudies@cardiff.ac.uk.
