Chances of success with a Vasectomy Reversal

Vasectomies can be reversed even after long periods of time. However, the success of the reversal, in terms of achieving a pregnancy, is dependent upon the surgeons technique, the age and fertility status of the female partner, and the length of time since the vasectomy.

If you are considering having a vasectomy reversal, the best thing you can do is come in and see one of our specialists.  We have experts in Microsurgery – the most successful technique available to reverse vasectomy and optimise the chance of restoring fertility.

Success factor: duration of time since vasectomy

The biggest study on vasectomy reversal showed. If the interval between vasectomy and the reversal was:

  • Less than 3 years – 75% of couples achieved a pregnancy.
  • 3-8 years – 50% of couples achieved a pregnancy.
  • 9-14 years – 40 % of couples achieved a pregnancy.
  • More than 14 years – 30 % of couples achieved a pregnancy.

Other factors that influence success include whether or not sperm are present in the vas fluid expressed at the time of the operation.

Because all our doctors are fertility specialists, they can also advise you on the relative benefits of IVF versus vasectomy reversal - specially for your own situation.
