Essential Reading - Genetic Carrier Screening
Genetic carrier screening gives individuals and couple’s information about their risk of having a child with a genetic condition.
It will tell you if you are a carrier for three common inherited conditions:
- Cystic Fibrosis (CF)
- Fragile X Syndrome (FXS)
- Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)
Many people are carriers of Cystic Fibrosis, Fragile X Syndrome and Spinal Muscular Atrophy even though they do not have anybody in their family who has the condition. Essential reading prior to treatment.
Team care approach
Welcome to our clinic. During your time at Fertility Associates you will meet a number of people on your journey to having a baby.
Fertility Associates clinics are a 7 day a week operation. Doctors and staff are rostered to ensure coverage at all times. Your treatment will be overseen by your allocated doctor. However, at certain times during your cycle you will be seeing other doctors and the wider team. Everyone has fertility experience and will be more than happy to help you.
Contacting you
It is important that during your cycle we can contact you by phone to give you instructions and information. Please ensure that:
- We have your current mobile number and other day time phone number where we can contact you.
- Please record your name on your answer-phones to assist us to identify you if we need to leave a message.
- Please check your phones regularly for messages and instructions.
Daily blood results normally arrive to us from the laboratories between 2:00pm – 4:00pm. 333
Occasionally these results are delayed in getting to us. Please phone your nurse if you have not heard from us about your results and instructions by 4:30pm on weekdays or by 3:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Texting
We will text or phone you with your results on the day you have blood tests and scans. If you do not wish to receive texts, please let us know. It is important you reply promptly once you have received your text. If you have other questions please phone your nurse.
Counselling
We understand that treatment can be very stressful at times and other life events may occur during your treatment. Please let us know if you wish to access our counselling support services. Sue Saunders, the Clinic Counsellor, is available for appointments which can be arranged through reception.
Blood tests
Please have your blood test as soon as your local lab opens in the morning to ensure we receive your results on time. If you are booked for a scan at FAH please ensure you have your blood test in the morning first.
If you are planning to travel and require a blood test outside your usual local lab, please notify your nurse. Having a blood test at a lab not listed herein may incur charges.
