COVID 19 Alert Level 2 & 4 Update – 7 Sept

It is great to hear that NZ south of Auckland will be moving into Level 2 on Wednesday 7th September.

Below we have updates for:

At Alert Level 2 - NZ outside of Auckland

At Level 2 we are happy to start taking Day 1’s for all treatments, with additional precautions to reduce the number of people into the clinic at any one time.

Level 2 changes:

  • We can now take Day 1’s for IUI and OI cycles from Weds 8 September.
  • Given the new requirements for Alert Level 2 we will allow 1 support person ONLY for egg collections, embryo transfers & pregnancy scans.  This helps to reduce the number of people into the clinic significantly.
  • This means unfortunately no support people for other appointments and, no children during Alert Level 2. If this will cause undue hardship, please call and discuss it with us before you start your cycle.
  • Consultations can be provided in person or remotely if preferred. For First Consultations partners are welcome to attend.
  • We will also start booking in additional procedures, donor appointments and semen analyses.

It is important that we continue our precautionary measures which include, all those attending the clinic must wear a mask and please keep 2m social distancing.

Level 4 Auckland Update:

In Auckland we continue to take Day 1’s for:

  • All types of IVF cycles, including embryo transfers, and use of donor sperm and donor eggs
  • Thawed embryo cycles.  Your doctor may advise using a programmed cycle to minimise blood tests
  • Fertility preservation before cancer treatment
  • Egg Freezing cycles
  • IUI with donor sperm

Alert Level 4 changes include:

  • IUI & OI: We are not taking Day 1’s for IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) or OI (Ovulation Induction) cycles at this time, we apologise as we know this will be disappointing for some.
  • PGT-A and PGD: We will not be taking any new Day-1s for PGT-A or PGD cycles. This does not impact patients who have already registered their Day 1 and started their stimulation medication.  For those who are planning their PGT-A or PGD cycle but have not started as of 8 September, we will offer you two options.
    1. being to postpone starting your cycle
    2. go ahead with a cycle where we will freeze the embryos to be thawed at a later date for biopsy.  We will then refreeze the embryos until the results are available.

New PGT-A or PGD cycles: We apologise for this delay, we have found biopsies challenging to manage under Covid Alert Level 4.   Your team will let you know if this applies to you and help to work with next steps.

  • Embryo transfers – natural cycles will be postponed, or your doctor may advise using a medicated/programmed cycles to minimise blood tests at this time.
  • Auckland blood labs are constantly changing please check Salve /COVID Updates or the LabTest website List on 6 Sept
  • Unfortunately, no support people/ partners at this time.  This helps to reduce the number of people into the clinic significantly. If this will cause undue hardship, please call and discuss it with us before you start your cycle.
  • Consultations are by Zoom or phone where possible – we are also postponing additional procedures, donor appointments and semen analyses.
  • Endocrinology patients , please see note below.
Thanks for your patience, our teams are here to support you so please be kind to them at this time. By working together, we can continue to provide treatments where safely possible.

Precautionary measures at the clinic
Level 4:
  • We’ll limit the number of patients in the clinic at any one time to reduce contact with others
  • Sometimes we may ask you to wait in your car or in the foyer for a short time when you arrive to ensure social distancing
  • We are asking people to attend without a support person to reduce numbers in the clinic.  If this will cause undue hardship, please call and discuss it with us before you start your cycle.
  • We’ll be conducting most of our consultations by telephone or video, so you only need to visit the clinic when it is necessary
  • We’ll also be keeping our lab staff separated from patients and other staff, so they will talk with you before egg collection and embryo transfer by phone, rather than in person.

Keeping things clean

  • Please make use of the hand sanitisers around the clinic, especially on arrival
  • We’ll be wiping down door handles, taps and other surfaces often – and please let our staff open the doors for you

PPE

  • We’ll be wearing scrubs, a mask and eye protection, and gloves when we need to touch you
  • You need to wear a mask while in the clinic.  Please bring your own mask if you have one – but we can supply a mask if needed.
Level 2:
  • We’ll limit the number of patients in the clinic at any one time to reduce contact with others
  • We’ll also be keeping our lab staff separated from patients and other staff, so they will talk with you before egg collection and embryo transfer by phone, rather than in person.

These measures keep you safe, keep staff safe, and minimise the chance that we will have to suddenly interrupt treatment  because we needed to put staff into isolation because we have unprotected contact with a patient who later tested positive for Covid-19.  Taking these precautions will slow us down a bit, so thank you in advance for your patience and help.

Important Reminder:

Please do not attend the clinic if you have any cold or flu symptoms OR if you have visited any of the recent Locations of Interest at the time outlined on the Ministry of Health's website. https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-health-advice-public/contact-tracing-covid-19/covid-19-contact-tracing-locations-interest

If you have questions about your treatment under Level 4 - please contact your nursing team or PM us here on Facebook. Please bear with us as our team are working as fast as they can to answer the many enquiries and will get back to you if you leave a message.

Endocrinology - Tele Health
    1. Tele health - In the case of a lockdown all endocrine appointments will be changed to be either a video or a telephone consultation.  Our secretary will be in touch with you prior to your appointment to determine your preference.
    2. Charges - If you would prefer to rebook later for a face-to-face appointment there will be no cancellation charge for this.  Otherwise charges for a telehealth appointment will be the same as a face-to-face appointment.
    3. Administration contact - our experience of previous lockdowns shows that administration work load is substantially increased.  Therefore please be patient regarding secretary contact – you will receive a response with time.
